There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is prohibited. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of many borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slots and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that highlights many comforts on top of the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
