There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino gambling is banned. Eight casinos are based in a relatively small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. The astonishing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of most border crossings.
The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling den, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that features many comforts aside from the gambling den, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight tables.
